For you non-procrastinators, you can now buy tickets to the Father John Misty / Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks show happening on September 1st of this year in Troutdale, OR. We both played the Boston Calling Music Festival last Fall and it was a blast.
Back in the sweltering summer of ’15, The Jicks were invited to play the 5th Annual Quiet Music Festival, in the heart of Portland’s historic Kenton neighborhood. Despite the fact that Jake was out of town, and that we don’t normally play at a volume you can nap to, we rose to the challenges of this unique opportunity to play an intimate, unusual, and idiosyncratic set of re-arranged songs, one-off covers, and deep rarities from the depths of our catalog. It was captured on analog 2-track 1/4″ tape, and is now available for streaming and download via the QMF’s bandcamp page. Check it out and see what all the hype is about, if only to hear what might be the only time we ever played ultra-rare s/t album track “Deado” live.

Fun fact: the line in beloved Pig Lib bonus disc rarity ‘Dynamic Calories’ that goes “From York to New York, you were a mild sensation” was originally “From Austin to Boston….”. It’s true! And I know I have a bootleg live recording of an early version of it lying around in the archives somewhere to prove it if you don’t believe me. Anyway, as Summer turns to Autumn, and my thoughts drift back to the forgotten college radio bands of yore (Fetchin Bones anyone?) we Jicks are in the midst of living out those prophetic lyrics. Last weekend we brought our lighthearted and lackadaisical show to Austin’s Parish club (read all about it here: http://goo.gl/niS35K ), and next weekend we make our way to Boston for not one but two shows! On Saturday, we’ll be a part of the excellent Boston Calling music festival, for which single-day tickets may be purchased here: http://bostoncalling.com/tickets.html. Preceding that, on Friday we will be headlining the Boston Calling Official After Party at the Sinclair (ticket link: http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/01004F31C5A755F2?brand=sinclair). I know it seems strange that we’re playing an after party BEFORE our festival show, which presumably means we’ll be partying before the after party, but I’m pretty sure it all makes sense somehow. Come on down if you can and join us while we “make a little rendezvous…”

Hey Portlanders,
Check out the 5th annual Quiet Music Festival this weekend at Disjecta! Hosted by our buddy Chris Johanson and featuring lots of rad music of the less blistering sort. Saturday is going to be HOT so come enjoy some AC and listen to Steve, Mike and Jo play a set of Jicks rarities, b-sides + psych and/or (quiet) punk covers. Summer is on!!!
Ahhhh Summer! Blistering bright greetings to you all. Stay hydrated and use a strong high SPF then clean off the lenses of your Vuarnet’s and peep these new East Coast Dates! Tickets are on sale now for 4 Knots Festival on the Hudson in New York City July 11th AND Boston Calling September 25-27th. Come on out!
Wig out across the World is coming to a close, which gives us a chance to look both backwards and forwards. Looking back to our March 5 show at the BottleTree in Birmingham, AL should be getting a lot easier soon. It was recorded by We Have Signal and will soon be streaming on their website and airing on Alabama Public Television. Stay tuned for details. Looking forward, about the only thing we have on our calendar is a Bartender Gig show with Spoon in L.A. on Sunday Oct 19. RSPVs are closed for this event, but audio/visual documentation may be forthcoming.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Mazes has had to cancel their appearances in Newcastle and Nottingham. Luckily for us all, Jack’s other band, Ultimate Painting has stepped in = we still have a great opening band, see you there!
